LR Management Group – Armscor

Armscor

LRMG custom e-learning courseware built for Armscor. Some of the features include interactive graphics that enable learners to view different insignia on the lapels of uniformed members of the SANDF to help visually indentify different ranks. Learners are tested through a module that requires them to interactively build insignia using the available components.

LR Management Group – Afrisam

Afrisam

LRMG custom e-learning courseware built for Afrisam. It’s one thing to start a project from scratch, but I think it’s extremely important to be able to adapt one’s work to an existing framework. While at LRMG, I was assigned several ‘mid-construction’ projects to edit and update their e-learning applications. One of the challenges that this project presented was getting to grips with the ‘code logic’ of the original developers.

Laragh Courseware – Software Simulations

Software Simulation

Laragh Courseware builds custom courseware and provides outsourced e-learning development for SkillSoft. The software simulations I developed at Laragh were some of the most complex as we reconstructed entire user interfaces in Flash so that they behaved as they would in the real application.

Roger Landman’s Portfolio – rogerlandman.com

Roger Landman's website for Roger Landman 2013

Being invloved with digtal products, it’s only fitting to express one’s work digitally too. The most important thing I wanted to get across with this portfolio is usalibty. The main page starts with my bio and immediately links to my social networks such as LinkedIn, for a more fomral breakdown of my career so far. Along with that is a ‘call to action’ to contact me, followed by the actual content divided into eight categories and three examples within each category. Effectively it’s a one-page showcase that provides you at a glance with all you need to know. By keeping it simple and using lighter background colours, the colours from the actual work gain the most attention on the page. Content is king.

Web Animated Comix – webanimix.com

WebAnimiX Site

WebAnimiX is a website aimed at publishing comics that are designed exclusively for digital consumption. Divided into three main areas of development – the WAX engine, the website, and content creation – my partner and I have spent over five years shaping WebAnimiX, learning incredibly valuable lessons all the way. We recently shifted focus from our Flash-based engine in favour of a JavaScript platform, which allows us to target touch-enabled devices and platforms that do not support Flash.

The Cape Film Guide – filmguide.co.za

Cape Film Guide

The Cape Film Guide website is a companion to the printed publication. I coded the HTML in the old-school way (entirely by hand in a text editor) with zero budget and a 24-hour deadline. What I enjoy about this site is its simplicity. It has only the basics and yet still ranks in the top ten (often in the top three) search results for the search phrase “film guide”. This despite the fact that the site hasn’t been updated with new content in several years. I credit this to the basic SEO checklist being fulfilled and the lack of any fancy-fair.

Torrential

Torrential Logo

This is a logo I designed for a Torrent downloading service. Seeing as the company offered a digital ‘product’, I created the logo so it could be used as a desktop icon and later as an app icon. I opted for a greyscale version with a strong black and white profile to avoid the logo looking like a barcode 🙂

The Engine Room Technologies

The Engine Room Logo

A logo I created for a small Java development studio. I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to create an e-shaped cog, thereby merging the initial letter of the company name with the concept of an engine. Being a digital company, needing to adapt the logo to a favicon and desktop icon was also an important design consideration.

Africa Geographic – Facebook Subscribe Tab

Africa Geographic Facebook

A Facebook tab I created to advertise the subscription options for the Africa Geographic monthly magazine. The focus was on a strong ‘call to action’ and simple visual design to help the user choose and then take them directly to the next step in the process.
